Description
An advertisement in the Argus newspaper on the Monday following the auction reported that over 3000 “eager and anxious” people attended the auction and as a consequence the “Central Land Bank” would, on the 22nd of September, auction off the second portion of the development. Section 1 was on the eastern side of burke Road between Gordon Road and Sturt Street, covering all of Wills and Eyre Streets and the western side of Grey Street. If the auctioneer’s marking on the poster are to be believed, lots 14, 15 and 16 sold for £7 per frontage foot – that’s £462 per block.
