Description
On the 11th of August 1910 there was an article in the Herald setting out the advantages of buying land in Blackburn. only in the last two paragraphs did they mention the auction and the terms of the sale. Here is a excerpt from an advertisement for the sale of the second township auction in November 1910:-
“Its northern portion (the August sale) has all been sold, and at
the auction held a few weeks ago (13th of August) the whole of
the 26 lots submitted were disposed of within half
an hour, many buyers failing to secure any.”
More than half the lots had been sold by the time of the auction and someone has recorded some of the sale prices – lot 43 for example went for £3/-/- per frontage foot, a total of £159. There are many pencil notes on the poster and these have been retained and are mostly legible on the printed image.
