Description
There are still 4 years to go before the end of the “Land Boom” and Mr Charles May is selling 52 allotments near the corner of Nepean Highway and Centre Road (Street on the poster). Advertisements had the subdivision in North Brighton and that there were 53 allotments – only 52 show on the poster. While advertising was extensive and many attended the auction the prices offered were not up to Mr. May’s expectations and few allotments were sold. Another auction on the 17th of January 1885 was rained out. A third auction was held in the auctioneer’s rooms on the 29th of January – I could not find a report on that sale. The final auction of 48 allotments was held on the 28th of March 1885. The subdivision starts on the corner of Nepeaan Highway and Centre Road and move north to Clive Street and Mill Street then east to coover both sides of Clinton Street. Hornby Street cuts through the subdivision.
