Description
The auctioneers called the suburb Essendon but after this it will be called Aberfeldie. The subdivision starts on the eastern side of Clifton Street between the southern side of William (now Ramsay) Street and both sides of Caroline Street and runs east to the western side of Lennox (now Fawkner) Street. Arthur Street runs east/west through the subdivision. What was the motivation for the auctioneers to hold the auction on a Thursday, on the property and at 4 in the afternoon? Why make the blocks so generous – most 70 feet wide?
