Description
Saturday the 28th of April 1888 and Mr. C. McDowall (with Mr. Beagin) are auctioning off 89 “Grand Allotments”. There are 163 lots on the poster, 1 to 74 were sold at an earlier sale. The whole of the land forms a large triangle between Mitcham Road to Doncaster on the map, Whitehorse and Government Roads (now Doncaster East Road). According to the Argus on the Monday following the sale “Competition was keen”. Prices on Mitcham Road varied from 22/- to 32/- per frontage foot. McDowell Street was 13/6d to 28/- per foot and Doncaster East (Cook’s Road) was 19/- to 26/-. Total for the sale was £3,106 11s 1d. Other Streets covered are Burnett, Wlliam and Harrison.
