Description
The poster is advertising an auction on the 24th of March, 1888 but does not say where. This was the second or the third sale. The first was on the 17th of March on the site at 3pm, there was another sale advertised for the 17th in the Athenaeum Theatre in Collins Street and there were advertisements for this one at the site and again at 3 O’Clock. The site is bounded by Harp Road in the north, Burke Road in the east,Park Hill Road (now Argyle Road) in the south and Lady Loch’s Drive and Normanby Road in the west. Other roads through the development include First Avenue, Gladstone Street (now Maitland Avenue), Second Avenue (now Goldthorns Avenue and Lady Brassey’s Drive (now Griffiths Grove).
