Plan of the Township of Abbotsford 20th August 1857

Description

A massive subdivision on the south east corner of Johnson and Nicholson Roads. Some 80 lots have already been sold. Someone has written on the poster under the date that the year was 1857. I could find no advertisements for the sale in 1857 or any Thursday the 20th of August up to the 1890ies. In 1854 however there was an advertisement where a John Orr was selling a block on Hunter Street. The Retreat Hotel now occupies Lot 25.

The subdivision itself runs from the south east corner of Johnston Street and Regent (now Nicholson) Street east to Clarke Street and south to the north side of Marine Parade. Other streets covered include Hunter Street, Masons Lane, Valiant Street, Patterson Street, Abbotsford Street, and Yarian (now Yarra) Street.
