Portions 266 and 272 Parish of Prahran 21st January 1860 – Elsternwick

This is probably the earliest poster I have restored, 1860. The vendor, Mr, J. M. Holloway has had the property for some 6 years and originally paid £3,356-9-5d for the 27½ acres. I could find no reports on how well the auction went but the one scheduled for the 21st of January seemed to not eventuate as another was scheduled of the following Saturday with exactly the same advertisement and 45 allotments. Many of the street names have changed but Sandham and Sewyn Streets have stuck with it. Glen Huntley Road has had a minor variation to Glenhuntly Road and George Street has become St. Georges Road. Ebden has become Regent Street and Davis has become Sinclair Street. A number of allotment have been marked as “Reserved” and according to the newspaper advertisements these are “a permanent family investment”.
