Description
George Coppin is subdividing the land previously owned by Sir James Palmer. Sir James died in on the 23rd of April, 1871. There are 73 lots and many are large blocks, especially those away from Brooke’s Grove (now Yarra Street). Other roads in the development are Hawthorn (now Burwood) Road, Coppin Grove, Shakespeare’s Grove, Isabella’s Grove and across the railway line Brooke Place (now an extension of Yarra Street). The auctioneer has recorded the auction price of many of the blocks, the lowest recorded was for £2-15-0 per frontage foot but it did have a large frontage and the depth was less than normal. The highest was £6-0-0 per foot.
