Description
Another of the Rose series of postcards, this time P. 3395. The date of individual postcards is normally difficult to pin-point but this one has a film advertised, “Border Wireless” and has some newspaper banners. The film was shot in 1918 and the head line of The Age refers to profiteering after WWI – I found an article in a January 1920 publication the quotes The Age article. Another hint is the absence of motor vehicles pointing to a shortage of fuel after the war. Many of the buildings in the image remain, particularly those on the western side of High Street. The duct for the tram cable is especially clear.
