Description
This is the second sale in this subdivision and this section starts on Patterson Avenue and runs south along both sides of Parer and Russell (now Roslyn) Street to Puerta Street. The first was on the 1st of April 1916 and ran from Burwood Road north towards this area being sold in May. Advertising was extensive across many papers and consisted of large and small ads. Not all blocks sold on the 13th of May and maybe the auctioneer has recorded the price, per frontage foot, for those that did sell. Lot 239 on Russell Street for example may have sold for eleven shillings per frontage foot – that’s £27-10-0 in total, about $55.00. Here is a report on the sale from the Herald:-
