Urquhart Estate – The Heart of Hawthorn 1920s

It is hard to pin down a date for the poster but the State Library of Victoria put it in the 1920s.  On October 29, 1919 the whole estate sold for £31,500 to a Mr. Woods and Mr. Riley.  In November 1927 there was a newspaper report that a block sold for £9-15-0 per foot – not that dissimilar to some of the prices on the map. The estate consisted of 38 acres and ran from close to Glenferrie Road through to Auburn Road. It covered Urquhart Street and expanded north to Rainbow Road (now Swinburne Avenue) and south to The Boulevard.
