Description
Initially this estate was offered as leasehold. The lease being 50 years. Here is an excerpt from the Argus on the 7th July 1884:-
A NOVEL LAND SALE
Fifty-year leaseholds of 80 acres of land,
known as the Grace Park Estate, situated on
the north side of Burwood road, Hawthorn,
subdivided into 300 building allotments were
offered for sale to about 700 persons on the
ground, on Saturday, by Mr Perryman
(Messrs Bliss and Perryman), auctioneers.
The article goes on to list some of the prices purchasers paid for particular lots. It seems that by 1895 leaseholds were not popular and the vendor was now offering freehold. It seems that many lots had gone as leasehold in the intervening 10 or so years. Streets involved are Mary Street, Karl (now Charles) Street, Moore Street Eric Street, Linda Crescent, Chrystobel Crescent, Glenferrie Road and Hildebrandt (now just Hilda) Crescent.
