Tivoli Estate 24th March, 1888 – South Yarra

Advertisements for the “Palermo” and “Tivoli” estates go back to 1884 and ran to the end of 1885. Palermo Street is just south of Toorak Road. I could find no posters for that sale. In 1888 this northern section of Tivoli Road was advertised – 4th of February 1888 28 allotments. Still 2 months later only 13 had sold. Given the market at the time that’s hard to believe. There were no reports on the reserve prices or the actual price achieved at the auction. The subdivision starts on the eastern side of River Street between Victoria Terrace and Malcolm Street and heads east to cover both sides of Tivoli Road.
