Description

It is 1884, still 4 years of the land boom to run, and John Clark & Co are offering for sale 27 allotments with an “upset” price (the reserve price) of 25 shillings per frontage foot. If we are to believe the notes on the poster, lots went for twice that. Lot 25, for example, went for 60/- per frontage foot. That’s £150 for the block. Quite a sum for the time. The subdivision starts on the eastern side of Auburn Road (the map is upside down) and heads east along both sides of Harts Parade  for 11 allotments. There 6 allotments on Auburn Road running south from the corner of Riversdale Road and Auburn Road.
