Description
The Brooks family held this land for many years, resisting tempting offers during the land boom. Now, after recently selling 7 acres to the local council for a cricket ground, they are offering up 27 acres, 117 lots for sale. A newspaper report from the 16th of June – “The Reporter” (Ringwood) –
Messrs. Coghill and Haughton report
a good demand for land and houses for
May. They sold 110 allotments in the
Camberwell Town Hall Estate, Camber-
well at prices ranging from 15/ to
£3 “/6 per foot, for a total of £9524.
Lots 15 and 16 Rowell avenue, Cam-
berwell. 35/ per foot.
It would appear that lot 29, which had a frontage to Rowell Avenue of 835 feet 6 inches, was further subdivided on the day. The subdivision runs south from Camberwell Road picking up both sides of Rowell Avenue and the western side of Bowen Street. It extends as far as the northern side of Nettleton Avenue and picks up Trumper Street And Tarawera (now Radnor Street). The auctioneers have kindly written in the sale price for most of the blocks – in shillings per frontage foot
