Description
A subdivision of 91 allotment being offered for private sale probably in early 1919. By October 1919 it seems 15 lots had been sold and the balance were going to auction on the 4th of October 1919. A report in the herald of the 9th says:-
“Knight, and Harwood, Collins street, and H. t\ Sutton, Box Hill. — Electric Tramway Estate – Box Hill.— Seventy-six allotments offered, and all sold. The lots have frontages of 50ft„ and the depths vary from 146ft. to 151ft. Those to Statlon Street brought the highest prices, £2/3/- to £2/7/- a foot. Asquith Street frontages realised 31/- to 36/- a foot; “William street, 32/- to £2/-/- a foot; and Linden street, 32/ to 36/ a foot. “
It could be that the person who owned the poster pencilled in the name change to William Street and may have had a particular interest in lot 63 – buying or selling it 5 years later for £925. From the newspaper report lot 63 sold for £100ish.
