Kew Park Estate Koornong Park 1888 – Balwyn North

Description

A great poster advertising the sale of 173 lots north east of the corner of Bulleen and Doncaster Roads. The date is the 1st of September, 1888 and the end of the land boom is nigh.  This sale was relatively successful as on the 13th of October a second sale was held and only 63 lots were available, presumably 110 sold at the first sale.  The second sale however may not have gone so well – a third sale was advertised for the 17th of November, 1888 listing 60 lots for sale – so maybe only 3 lots sold at the second sale. The triangular estate is bounded in the west by Bulleen Road, in the east by Fortuna Avenue and in the south by Doncaster Road. Other roads include Griffin’s Road (now The Nook) and Montrose Terrace (now The Moor and part of Macedon Avenue). Other streets have been added Macedon, Sunburst and Toorang while others have gone Joyce, Airgill, Palumah and Gayndah.
