Description
This is a fine poster advertising the private sale of a subdivision in Northcote bounded by St Georges Road in the east, Wilson Street (now Beaconsfield Parade) in the north, Mitchell Street (now Woodhouse Street) in the west and Morley Street (now Gladstone Avenue) in the south. In February 1888 a newspaper advertisement ran:-
The vendors have consented to allow the few lots remaining unsold in the estate to be offered privately FOR ONE WEEK ONLY. At low reserves, and on the same liberal terms as at the recent auction sales.
In December 1888 private sales were still being advertised at £2/15/0 per frontage foot. That would be £55 for a small 20 foot block.
