Description
I had great trouble placing this subdivision. The Locality Plan got me close but given the main road at the northern end was unnamed and the the names on the poster did not match any of the present roads I was struggling. Then a very helpful “Gmailer” sent me a note:-
The Mount Aura Estate was located it is actually William Road in The Patch and Kallista. William Road was originally known as Mountain View Road. It was later deviated to include Kerr’s Avenue. Kerr’s Avenue was named after FTG Shire councillor Kerr who was on the FTG council 1891-1928 and whose property was named Aura but it was not actually in this location, this was just a tribute to him. The Road “to Monbulk” at the top is now Portman Road (named after John Portman who owned the adjoining property). The straight government Road at the top was surveyed but never constructed. It was called Ward Road (after an early settler John T. Ward) and started near the present Keeleys Lane on Grantulla Road and went to Frond Drive on Kallista-Emerald Road. Ward Road shows up on Melways maps but doesn’t exist. Bona Vista Road is now Ridge Road and Sea View Road is now Grantulla Road. The township of Selby was named after G.W. Selby (who was also a councillor) but his property shown on the map is on Grantulla Road in Kallista which was later known as Booth Lodge and owned by Dyson Hore-Lacy.
Thank you Armin. It looks like all blocks except 24 and 31 sold.
