Description
There was such activity in the land development business at this time and around this area. Here we have 143 allotments being offered in the middle of January. In one of the advertisements the auctioneer is quoted as saying that he was confident of selling the whole subdivision on the day. The development starts on the north west corner of Station Street and Canterbury Road – heads west to cover both sides of Victoria (now Parkside) Street and North to cover both sides of Alexandra Street. Someone, maybe the auctioneer or a speculator, has written in some prices against most blocks. On Canterbury Road for example the price is 34/- per frontage foot – so lot 110 might be had for £119. Albert Street is now Acacia Street and Beatrice Avenue is now Bass Street.
