A newspaper report following the sale reported;-
High Prices
Bidding was spirited at an auction sale on Saturday afternoon of the Riversdale Estate Hawthorn Prices ranged up to £18 a foot
The 20 blocks in the subdivision were sold for a total of £ 17,413
The estate is on the south side of Riversdale road near Power street and was offered under instructions from the executors of the estate of the late Mr Edward Duckett
Allotments 50ft by 150ft fronting Riversdale road suitable for the erection of flats sold at from £12/15 to £14/15 a foot Two smaller blocks sold at £11 and £11/5/- a foot. Healthier prices ruled in Riversdale Court where the allotments have an extensive outlook over the Yarra River and Toorak. On the north side lots with 60ft frontages and depths of about 150ft sold at from £11 to £13 10s a foot. On the south side where depths varied from 198ft to 370ft the range of prices was from £ 13-16 to £ 18 a foot. From £750 to £820 was paid for four irregular blocks. A building restriction of one dwelling only was imposed on the Riversdale Court blocks.
It looks like an auctioneer or maybe a newspaper reporter recorded the results of this poster. Prior to the pressent owner the land was owned by Sir Redmond Barry, the judge that sentenced Ned Kelly.
