We have 30 acres subdivided into 147 allotments and the year is 1885. Advertisements started early in September 1885, a 12 week lead up to the auction. It seems many of the blocks sold before the auction for around £2 -0-0 (40 shillings) per frontage foot. If one believes the notes of the auction sale price of near by blocks – 50 to 60 shillings per foot – the early birds did OK.  The subdivision extends from the south side of Charles Street between Merri Parade and High Street south to the north side of Union Street. The railway is yet to be built.
