Suburban Allotment No. 17 – Burnley

Description

This is the north east corner of Swan and Burnley Streets. According to the State Library of Victoria the year is between 1840 and 1870 – given the auction is on Wednesday the 25th September that gives us just 4 years – 1843, 1849, 1861 and 1867. Another interesting feature is the name changes, Burnley and Swan have held the line but James has become Farmer Street, Hoddles St East has become Cutter Street and Harrison to Stawell Street. The local Council could not help as they could not find any record of the name changes (how hard did they look?). Local newspapers kept any record of the auction close to their chests as well.
