Description
This subdivision was first advertised for sale on the 2nd of October 1886 with 73 allotments being offered. There were further advertisements for a sale on the 11th of December 1886 for, to me, the same 73 allotments. I could find no reports on the earlier sales. Then we have this sale on the 18th of December which was postponed due to the “inclemency of the weather“. It was resheduled for the 15th of January 1887 and according to the report in the Age of the following Monday, page 4, “There was a large attendance of buyers and 40 allotoments were sold at from 5s d. to 21s per foot. Total sales amounted to £1688-19s.”. There was a further sale on the 12th of March 1887 consisting of 27 allotments. Given that there are only 123 allotments shown on the map of the subdivision some may have reappeared in the second sale.
The subdivion starts on the south side of Clow Street between Foster Street and the Dandenong Creek and heads south west along Foster street to the southern side of Macpherson Street then south east to the Creek. Streets covered include Clow, Foster, Besley, Arnold, Nova, Tania, Power and Norquay (now gone).
