The land had been held by Captain McMeikan for some 80 years – originally purchased in 1850 for £5-12-6 an acre. This sale of 5 acres is the last portion of the original holding to be sold. It seems the sale price for each block has been recorded (price per frontage foot). The Argus of the 18th of July reported that all blocks sold and the total income was £19,533.
