Dalley’s Orchard 16th February 1884 – Hawthorn

45 Villa lots for sale and according to the advertisements only 5 minutes walk from the Glenferrie railway station.  The auctioneer did have a great day on the 16th. Below is the report from The Argus of Monday the 18th of February 1884 page 4:-

Mr F L Flint, auctioneer, Hawthorn, reports having held a successful sale of Dalley’s orchard subdivision at Hawthorn on Saturday last. The attendance numbered between 300 and 400 persons and the bidding was most rapid and spirited throughout. The whole of the 45 lots were sold at the following prices Cottages and land on lots 1 and 12; £315 and £330 respectively; Riversdale road frontages £3/10/- to £4/5/- per foot; Marian street 30s to 42s 6d per foot;  Henrietta street 30s to 50s per foot; total result of sale, £5785/15/5.

The orchard picks up both sides of Marian Street from Riversdale Road to the present BLVD and then heads west along Riversdale and both sides of Henrietta Street going 6 blocks beyond Dalley Street.
