Description
It is late November and the Great Depression has been going for for just over a year and Knight& Harwood have 47 allotments for auction. The Herald on the 26th of November, 1930 reported below:-
FERNDALE ESTATE SALES
There was an attendance of about 350 at the auction sale con-
ducted by Knight and Harwood last Saturday afternoon, of the
Ferndale Estate, Glen Iris, when several allotments were sold under
the hammer at the following prices: Ferndale Road, £4/12/ a foot:
Wallis Avenue £2/15/0 to £3/0/0 a foot; Bell Street, £ 2/10/ a foot; Dillon
Grove, £2 a foot.
So, given the date, the word several, and only one street had a price range they sold maybe 5 lots. Also on the 26th there was an advertisement saying that the balance of the lots would be available at the “upset price” of £1/0/0 per foot. The poster is fine and sports an image of houses in Glen Iris road.
