“Although the weather militated against a very large attendance there was a good number of people, and most of them were eager to obtain one or more of the choice blocks. The first allotment sold – No. 21 – right on the coach route brought £50 an acre and other allotments on the main road sold from £40 to £42/10/- an acre. Blocks along Sheffield Road sold from £35 to £42/10/- per acre, and blocks along Marshall Terrance sold from £15 to £21 an acre; and on the highest part of the Estate in Upper Terrance, Lots 38 and 39 realised £22/10/- and £39 an acre.”
Lot 21 is on the corner of Mackenzie Groveand Marshall Terrace. Upper Terrance is now Singleton Terrace. A number of the allotments are now part of parkland.
