Description
The auctioneer put the time of the auction, “Three o’clock”, on the poster but forgot to say what day or year. Presumably another auctioneer has penciled the date in as well as the names of the purchasers and the prices paid. For example lots 19 and 20 went to a Geoff Harrison for 23/- per frontage foot – a total of £192/14/5. A small report in The Herald of the 25th of September 1913 says:-
BLACKBURN.
The sale of King’s Paddock, Blackburn, on Saturday, attracted a large attendance of local and outside buyers. For every block there was keen competition, and the whole of the 20 lots were sold in 40 minutes by the auctioneer, Mr T. J. Jennings, of T. R. B. Morton and Son. Twenty-five shillings a foot was paid for a block at the corner of Railway Parade and Hindon Street; Whitehorse Road blocks brought 24/-, Hindon Street 18/-, Lithgow avenue 17/-, 20/- and 23/- a foot.
The subdivision is bounded by Whitehorse Road in the north, Downing Street in the west, Railway Parade in the south and in the east by the end of Lithgow Avenue.
