Description
The poster cites the Russell Estate as adjoining the celebrated “O’Shannassy Estate” which went to auction initially in 1889 and again in 1900. The Russell Estate started in 1890 and there were further sales in 1892. Judging by the auctioneer’s records only 9 of the 36 lots were sold on the day – if he diligently recorded all sales. The prices achieved seem good – lot 16 sold for £5-10-0 per frontage foot, a total of £363. The subdivision covers the block bordered by Canterby Road in the north, Russell Street in the west, the Broadway in the south and Oliver Street (now Stanhope Grove) in the east.
