Description

The executors of Mr George Bakers St Kilda estate are offering up 64 allotments for auction just before Christmas in 1900. Not a great idea as reports say that they sold £1130 in total, probably only 20 to 25 blocks selling. The balance were to be sold by private auction. There was a second auction on Saturday the 8th of February 1902 with 35 blocks on offer. I could find no reports on this sale but 4 and a bit years later, 28th of April 1906, they are back on the market with 25 blocks available – 15 sold from 23/- per frontage foot – around £50 for a 40 foot block. The poster itself is quite good with fine shades of green contrasted by the reddish colour of the blocks.

The streets covered are Blessington, Chaucer, Barkly, Dickens and Baker
