Description

The estate of the late Mr. Henty is being subdivided – some 126 regular sized blocks and maybe 139 much larger sized. A number of the blocks have had prices recorded on the poster – lot 14 in section III (just back from the corner of Balwyn and Cotham Roads) sold for 10/- per frontage foot, total of £33. The image on the website is relatively low resolution but the printed poster is 10 times higher and the width of lot 14 is clearly 66 feet. There was a second sale on the 17th of November 1883 and a third on the 31 May 1884. I could not pick up any results on these sales.

The subdivision starts on the north east corner of Cotham (Whitehorse) and Balwyn Roads and moves north to cover both sides of Winmalee Road then heads east to Warrington (now Union) Road. The land on the north west corner of Cotham and Union was not in the sale. Other streets covered include Narrak, Banool, Parring, Kireep, Karrbat, Brenbeal, Iramoo, Yerrin, Mangan, Hertford, Yonga, Parkdale, Dundee, Liboria, Linckens and Jurang.
